Hello! My name is Emily Che. I grew up in Tokyo, Japan and began performing Japanese Calligraphy at age six. I moved to the U.S. for college and am currently based in NYC.

 

I perform with a concentration in the Kaisho (rigid) and Gyōsho (fluid) styles and enjoy exploring new forms of expression within the traditional formula of writing kanji characters. I find it fascinating how simple changes in brush movement, ink velocity, and paper quality can bring together a unique medley of emotions to illustrate different messages.
